An iced matcha latte is easiest when you mix the powder in a small amount of liquid before it meets the ice. Pouring dry matcha into a cold glass usually leaves floating clumps.
Ingredients for one glass
- 2–3 g matcha
- 30–45 ml water
- 150–200 ml chilled milk or milk alternative
- Ice
- Sweetener, optional
Method
- Sift the matcha into a small bowl or shaker.
- Add the water and whisk or shake until the powder is evenly mixed. Cool the mixture briefly if you used warm water.
- Fill a glass with ice and pour in the milk.
- Add the matcha mixture, stir, then taste. Add sweetener only if you want it.
Ice will melt and soften the drink. If your first attempt tastes too weak after a few minutes, use a little more matcha or less milk next time. A scale makes the experiment easier to repeat.
For the warm version, see the simple matcha latte. For a dairy-free glass, the milk alternatives guide covers flavour and texture differences.
